Agioi-Anargyroi & Kamatero is a city with increased importance in the western Athenian suburbs. The city economy is mainly focused towards the secondary sector in tandem to being a service economy. The city has a lot of real estate development due to the easy access to the main road network and to the suburban rail network. It has two Suburban Railway stations connecting it to the main underground line.
The city faces various issues including environmental pollution from car usage, lack of integrated public transport, increased traffic levels, public transport and shortage of parking space due to the high car demand. Agioi Anargyroi & Kamatero has an elegant inner city but the attractiveness for pedestrians is low due to heavy traffic, long distances to/from PT and minimum car parking availability. Additionally, minimal cooperation between transport, tourism and environmental departments as well as with central government exists.
The municipality of Agioi Anargyroi & Kamatero has a rolling 3-year traffic strategy which addresses issues related to individual transport as well as noise pollution. A separate public transport strategy exists, which is dealing with the public transport demand and planning up to 2015. Agioi Anargyroi & Kamatero does not yet have a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) but it plans on undertaking an audit and elaborate the basis of the first SUMP.
